Rosatom set to build dry-cooled nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan and the Rosatom State Corporation are currently negotiating the use of a «dry cooling» technology in the project of a nuclear power plant in the Republic. The reason for this is the potential water shortage in the region, Interfax reports.

Director of the department of sustainable development at the Rosatom State Corporation Polina Lion said negotiations with potential customers in Uzbekistan are underway. She noted that by 2050, Uzbekistan may face water supply problems. A dry cooling technology allows avoiding this problem.

This solution is complex and technically advanced. However, Rosatom is working on this issue, as it will be relevant in the future.

The State Corporation is planning to build a nuclear power plant that will have 2 power units with VVER-1200 reactor units in Uzbekistan. Director General at Rosatom Alexey Likhachev confirmed that negotiations with the representatives of Uzbekistan on the construction of the power plant have reached the final stage.
