Emergency measles vaccine available in Kazakhstan

Citizens of Kazakhstan can receive an emergency measles vaccine if there is a high chance of becoming infected, the Ministry of Health of the Republic reported to Centralasia.news.

The vaccine is available for certain age groups.

“An emergency vaccine is given to persons under the age of 30 who have been in close contact with a person diagnosed with measles (not vaccinated, without data on vaccination, without a second booster dose of measles vaccine) in measles outbreaks to prevent the spread of the infection,” Acting Chairperson of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control under the Ministry of Health Zaure Akhmetova stated.

The vaccine should be received no later than 72 hours after the last contact with the sick patient.

According to the Ministry, additional mass vaccination for children aged 6-10 months and 2-4 years, as well as unvaccinated medical workers was launched to improve the epidemiological situation in the Republic on November 6. Children aged 1 and 6 years get routine measles vaccines.
