The decision to include Kyrgyzstan’s nomination “Elechek, Kyrgyz female headwear: traditional knowledge and rituals” on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was adopted at the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place in Kasane on December 6, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reports.
Among 60 nominations presented this year, elechek is among the 18 best and well-prepared nominations recognized by international experts. The decision on the inclusion on the UNESCO List was adopted unanimously.
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov emphasised the importance of the traditional female headwear elechek for the people of the Republic. When meeting with the UNESCO Director-General in November, he noted that he counted on the support in the inclusion of this nomination on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
