Serdar Berdimuhamedov addresses COP28 Conference in Dubai

On December 1, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) and made a report at the plenary session of the global summit, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

The President noted that today climate change has become the most significant challenge to achieving sustainable development. It also affects geopolitical architecture.

The President said Ashgabat is aware of the need to continue targeted measures to ensure further progress in the fight against climate change and its effects. Serdar Berdimuhamedov characterised Turkmenistan’s contribution to international efforts to reduce methane emissions as a decisive aspect.

He reminded that Turkmenistan announced its support for the new initiative on the Global Methane Pledge and its interest in contributing to the implementation of this initiative at the Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

The Turkmen side also proposed headquartering the UN Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia.
