Paris hosted the One Planet – Polar Summit initiated by the French side at the end of last week. The Tajik delegation, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, took part in the event, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
The Summit brought together heads of state and government members to discuss with each other and scientists the environmental challenges and melting glaciers on the planet. The participants expressed concern about the current state of glaciers and significant negative changes in the global cryosphere. They noted that these problems could have significant impacts on human wellbeing, ecosystems, water resources and sea levels.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan said the fulfilment of commitments undertaken at the conferences and in the framework of the International Year of Glacier Preservation would contribute to protecting the environment. He spoke about the measures taken by the Republic to rehabilitate the environment.
