Uzbekistan and China to cooperate in uranium mining

The Navoiuran State Enterprise of Uzbekistan and the China National Nuclear Corporation signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in uranium mining and the development of the uranium industry, the press office of the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The signing ceremony of the memorandum took place on the sidelines of the International Natural Uranium Industry Development Forum in Beijing.

Navoiuran General Director Zhamol Faizullaev discussed the investment projects in the uranium industry with CNNC Vice President Shen Yanfeng during the meeting.

The delegation from Uzbekistan received valuable information about the uranium mining and processing operations of the Chinese company. The Navoiuran specialists studied the CNNC’s expertise and achievements in this area, as well as digital technologies used to improve production efficiency.

The Navoiuran State Enterprise began mining uranium in 2022. By 2030, the company plans to increase uranium production to 7,100 tonnes per year, which is twice the current volume. This will enable Uzbekistan to take an important place in the international uranium market and meet the growing nuclear power demand.
