Kyrgyzstan launches administrative territorial reform

Prime Minister Akylbek Zhaparov led a meeting in Bishkek. The meeting focused on the implementation of the administrative territorial reform (ATR), the press office of the Government of the Republic reports.

The Republic is planning to merge aiyl aimaks in a pilot mode. The working commissions consisting of government officials were set up at akimats as part of the reform. The aiyl aimak enlargement projects were discussed with local populations, and parliamentarians elaborated on them at the sessions of local councils, the Cabinet of Ministers confirmed.

Following the presentations, Akylbek Zhaparov approved the APR projects and made some comments and additions. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that the main goal of the reform is to improve the effectiveness of local governments, step up digital transformation of public services and local decision-making and reduce and redistribute financial resources.
