Turkmenistan and Iraq sign memorandum on gas supplies

On October 6, in Baghdad, chairman of the «Turkmengas» state concern Maksat Babayev met with the head of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel. The parties signed a memorandum of understanding on the supply of natural gas to Iraq. This was reported by the government news agency INA.

They noted that the gas import is intended to meet the needs of power plants of the republic.

Maksat Babayev also held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdulghani Al-Sawad. The official called on Turkmen companies to take part in promising investment projects in the country.

In August, an Iraqi delegation led by Deputy Minister of Electricity Adil Karim Kak Ahmed and Deputy Minister of Oil Ezat Sabir Esmail paid a visit to Ashgabat. They met with representatives of the «Turkmengas» state concern and agreed on the technical, financial and commercial aspects of the import of Turkmen gas. Supplies will be delivered through Iran within a swap scheme.
