Germany to start lithium mining in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev reviewed the project of a lithium extraction and processing plant, which the German company Hms Bergbau AG is planning to build in the country. As reported, investment in this project is forecast to reach $500 million, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Tokayev informed the CEO at Hms Bergbau AG of his readiness to provide the necessary conditions for the foreign investors to implement the project of a lithium mining and processing plant in East Kazakhstan Region.

«The President of Kazakhstan noted that key potential areas of cooperation include the extraction and processing of rare earth metals, focusing on a growing lithium demand in developed economies,» the press office reports.

Hms Bergbau AG is one of the leading independent raw materials trading and marketing companies in Germany specialising in solid mineral exploration and production. It extracts raw materials in the United States, Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia, Poland, the UAE and Botswana.
