Measles cases in Kyrgyzstan have risen

In Kyrgyzstan, the number of reported measles cases has exceeded 2,300 people. The Ministry of Health said the contagious viral diseases continues spreading among citizens of the country, EADaily reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, since January 2023, 2,316 measles cases have been reported. Most of the cases were registered in Bishkek (660), Osh Region (654), Osh city (302) and Chui Region (277).

According to the Ministry, the main reason behind the increasing incidence is the insufficient routine measles-rubella vaccination coverage of children and adults.

«The Ministry of Health is conducting an additional measles-rubella vaccination campaign <…> Children from 9 months to 7 years of age must get vaccinated, regardless of their vaccination status or previously transferred measles and rubella,» the Ministry of Health said.

The vaccination campaign began on September 18 and continued until September 29 in the most affected regions of the Republic: Bishkek, Osh, Osh and Chui Regions.
