On September 29, in Berlin, National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz. The officials discussed the key areas of interstate cooperation. This was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan: Today».
They noted the importance of preparing a medium-term cooperation program. The head of the Halk Maslakhaty pointed out the need to integrate Afghanistan into the construction of gas pipelines, railways, power lines, and fiber-optic communication lines in the region.
The officials paid special attention to attracting German investment, supplying equipment and constructing new facilities in the fuel and energy sector of Turkmenistan. The national leader expressed the readiness of the state to consider new proposals from partners in the development of the Caspian shelf.
Chairman Halk Maslakhaty emphasized that Ashgabat plans to activate dialogue with the EU, including Germany, on the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project. The interlocutors also discussed issues of cooperation in the field of reducing methane emissions and hydrogen production in Turkmenistan. Further discussion of the partnership will take place at the 10th meeting of the joint working group on economic cooperation in the first half of 2024.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people and the Chancellor of Germany noted that the European republic supplies modern equipment to the medical institutions of the Central Asian country. Doctors exchange professional experience. Ashgabat and Berlin launched a joint forum on health protection.
Turkmenistan cooperates with the Goethe Cultural Center, the DAAD, PAS and PAD programs. The exhibition «Margiana. A Bronze Age Kingdom in Turkmenistan» took place in Germany, in 2018–2019. The interlocutors also considered the possibility of organizing the 2nd cycle of the exhibition and demonstrating artifacts of the Parthian kingdom and the heritage of the Seljuk Empire.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people invited the German Chancellor to visit Turkmenistan at any time convenient for him.
