Tokayev holds talks with President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev concluded his working visit to New York with a meeting with President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol. The main issues under discussion included the prospects of strategic partnerships between the countries, the Telegram channel of Akorda reported.

Tokayev noted that friendship between South Korea and Kazakhstan is based on dynamic economic relations. He said the total volume of investments by Korean companies in Kazakhstan’s economy exceeded $8 billion, which allows South Korea to stand firm among the top ten investors of the country. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that today more than 700 Korean companies and joint ventures, including KIA, Hyundai, Samsung and LG, operate in his country.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev mentioned rare earth mining and the promotion of nuclear energy as promising areas of economic cooperation between South Korea and Kazakhstan.

The President of South Korea supported his counterpart’s opinion, noting that his country is set to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in these areas. Yoon Suk Yeol said Korean companies are keenly interested to expand existing projects and implement new ones in the machine building, mining and nuclear energy sectors.
