President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held a meeting with President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The issues under discussion included cooperation and the implementation of joint projects in Kyrgyzstan, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reports.
Sadyr Japarov highlighted the importance for Kyrgyzstan to continue cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank. He also noted that the Bank has funded 26 infrastructure projects with special attention paid to Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector.
Japarov announced plans to implement a programme, which envisages building up capacities and reconstructing the main electricity generating facilities and constructing new hydropower plants. He said Kyrgyzstan that has significant water resources uses only 13 percent of its potential. In the coming years, it is planned to launch from 50 to 100 small hydropower plants, including 16 plants, by the end of the year.
The IsDB President noted the high level of cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. He expressed readiness to expand the areas of interaction and strengthen bilateral relations with the Kyrgyz side.
