President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The press office of the President of the Republic reported the details of the meeting.
The interlocutors discussed political and economic issues, as well as social problems. They also exchanged views on geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts.
Emomali Rahmon expressed his concerns about climate change and the role of Tajikistan in addressing global water problems during the talks with the UN Secretary-General.
The talks also focused on Afghanistan security threats. The President emphasised that Tajikistan is using its logistics capacities to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. As was reported, the fruitful meeting allowed for discussion of many important issues.
Emomali Rahmon is on a visit to the United States from 18 to 21 September, where he will continue his work at the UN General Assembly.
