Amazon may build data centres in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with Vice President at Amazon Corp. Susan Pointer. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in developing cloud technologies and building data centres, the Telegram channel of Akorda reported.

Noting that Kazakhstan has made great progress towards digital government, Tokayev emphasised the need to introduce advanced infrastructure solutions to improve digital transformation in the country. The Amazon representative expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan to expand its influence throughout Central Asia.

Tokaev and Pointer signed an Agreement between the Ministry of Digital Development and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan (NIT JSC) and Amazon Web Services on the purchase of Outpost cloud technology. A pilot project will be launched in the near future to integrate it with the QazTech platform. The Agreement is expected to lay the groundwork for data centres of global players in Kazakhstan and enable it to implement its potential as a regional IT hub.
