President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with President and Chief Executive Officer of Wabtec Rafael Santana. The main issue under discussion was the prospects of cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the American company in railway reconstruction, the Telegram channel of Akorda reported.
Rafael Santana informed Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev about the planned investment projects, including the launch of production of hydrogen powered locomotives and component parts. The prospects also include the establishment of an engineering centre and technology transfer.
The President of Kazakhstan welcomed Wabtec’s plans to invest about $1 billion in Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics sector, noting that it would give impetus to develop the Trans-Caspian transnational transport route and other infrastructure projects.
Following the talks, the parties signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation between the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company and Wabtec.
