Authorities of Uzbekistan and WB set to jointly develop urbanization programme

Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov held an important working meeting with a World Bank delegation. The delegation was headed by World Bank’s Regional Director for the Central Asia region Tatiana Proskuryakova. The main issues under discussion included urbanization and land reform programmes, which are of crucial importance for the development of the country, the press office of the Government of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The high-ranking officials, including First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Jasur Karshibaev and Director of the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies Umid Abidkhajaev, attended the meeting. The talks focused on solutions to address water shortages in some regions of Uzbekistan. The participants exchanged views and proposed the ideas for the reconstruction of canals.

The main issues raised at the meeting included the development of the DPO-6 (Development Policy Operation) that comprises a low-interest concessional loan provided by the World Bank. These funds can be used to implement large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan’s economy.
