Authorities of Uzbekistan to punish for ads of polygamous marriages

The draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offence of Uzbekistan was discussed at the Oliy Majlis. The main issues under discussion included the ban on ads of polygamous marriages and the introduction of fines for violating the ban, the press office of the Oliy Majlis reported to CentralAsia.news.

This has been suggested as caused by the problems that arise from the absence of official registration of many marriages at registry offices. An unregistered marriage causes a lot of problems, such as paternity determination, alimony and inheritance. This leads to a loss of confidence of citizens, particularly women, in the national legal system.

The number of such cases continues to grow every year. According to parliamentarians, one of the reasons is ads that encourage polygamous marriages. The draft law will impose fines for the promotion of this lifestyle in entertainment and analytical materials.

Uzbekistan is also planning to ban wild predators from being kept as pets at home. This draft law is under consideration and will come into force after signing by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
