UNESCO club «Ahal-Teke Horses - Ambassadors of Peace» to open in Turkmenistan

On August 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO. The participants heard a report on the creation of the UNESCO Club «Ahal-Teke Horses — Ambassadors of Peace» at the International Academy of Horse Breeding named after Aba Annaev in Arkadag city. This was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the MFA.

Officials noted that the club will expand the work on the inclusion of the nomination «Ahal-Teke horse breeding and traditions horse decorations» in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The International Academy of Horse Breeding named after Aba Annaev was established in 2023. Columnist Serdar Akiniyazov noted that the work of the institution aims to preserve the breed purity of the Akhal-Teke horses. The Academy cooperates with the International Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding Association, established on the initiative of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in 2010.

Aba Annaev was the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s great-uncle. He was widely known as a talented horse breeder.
