Kazakhstan develops online platform offering psychological support for youth

The Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Mental Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is preparing to launch the USuppot online platform, which will offer professional psychological support to children and adolescents, the press office of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan reported.

According to healthcare specialists, adolescents and young people are increasingly experiencing mental health problems, but they neither solve them nor contact any health professionals because of the embarrassment and stigma. The WHO estimates that half of all mental health conditions start by 14 years of age, and 75 percent by 24 years of age.

The USupport platform is based on international best practices in online therapy and mental health services. All those willing will receive help from psychologists anonymously. They can do this in a chat or via audio and video chats. The platform will provide resources and materials about mental health as well.

Now the developers are working on the content of the application. This work is nearing completion. The platform is to be launched by the end of 2023.
