On August 17, at the conference «Turkmenistan — UNESCO: cooperation for prosperity» dedicated to the 30th anniversary of country’s accession to the full membership of UNESCO, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Rashid Meredov stated that Turkmenistan intends to continue to closely cooperate with the Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. This was reported by the correspondent of Central Asia.news.
The official recalled that in recent years the country has cooperated with UNESCO in new areas, one of which is oceanography.
Meredov noted that over the past five years, a lot has been done to ensure that Turkmenistan is actively integrated into the partnership. He emphasized the importance of this factor in the Caspian context, as well as the significance of participation of Turkmenistan in global work dedicated to solving maritime issues.
— Just the other day, the scientific-practical conference dedicated to the Day of the Caspian Sea took place in the «Avaza» National Tourist Zone. The participants from Turkmenistan touched upon the achievements and the problems of the Caspian Sea today. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that our interaction with the Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO will certainly contribute to the solution of the problems that we discussed last week in Avaza, — the deputy prime minister said.
The politician noted that Turkmenistan will continue to fully comply with its obligations under the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
— Undoubtedly, Turkmenistan will continue to initiate new proposals aimed at creating a solid contractual and legal framework that regulates the behavior of all the states in the Caspian region. At the same time, we are ready for practical intergovernmental work in such important areas as security, energy, trade, shipping and a number of other spheres, — Meredov said.
In conclusion, the deputy prime minister once again drew attention to the fact that the Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO will be one of the main partners of Turkmenistan in solving all the mentioned issues.
