Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov sent a congratulatory letter to president Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the country’s membership in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan: Today».
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the republic has joined the Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Turkmenistan has repeatedly become a member of the executive board of the organization. The government and UNESCO signed a memorandum of cooperation for 2021-2023.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty emphasized that the historical and cultural parks «Ancient Merv», «Kunya-Urgench» and «Parthian Fortresses of Nisa» were included in the World Cultural Heritage List. The epic art of Gorogly, Novruz holiday, the kushtdepdi rite of singing and dancing, dutar making craftsmanship and traditional music performing art combined with singing, the art of Turkmen carpet making and needlework entered into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also added that UNESCO included the collection of manuscripts of famous Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi in the Memory of the World Register. The celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher entered into the UNESCO List of Memorable Dates.
