Uzbekistan seeks to have its own ships in Caspian Sea

Director of the Centre for the Study of Problems of Transport and Logistics Development under the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan Bekzod Kholmatov said the authorities of the Republic are very interested to have the ships in the Caspian Sea, the Report.az.News Agency of Azerbaijan reported.

Kholmatov noted that its own ships in the Caspian Sea will enable Uzbekistan to transport goods along the Trans-Caspian route. The Director of the Centre stressed that the authorities of the Republic are very interested to implement joint shipbuilding projects with Azerbaijan.

Noting that Uzbek importers hope for close cooperation with the Port of Baku, Kholmatov emphasised that they are ready to either rent a mineral fertilizer terminal for a long term or invest to build it. The Director of the Centre specified that a feasibility study for the project is underway.

The geographical location of the Republic is such that more than one border needs to be crossed to have access to the sea: such countries are called double-landlocked countries.
