Kyrgyzstan has tripled underwear exports

In Kyrgyzstan, underwear production and exports have surged significantly over the past year. The major partners are Russia and Kazakhstan, MIR 24 reports.

One of the garment factories in Bishkek produces over 30,000 items daily. Over the past year, the number of orders has tripled, and most of them are coming from foreign countries.

The manufacturers are expanding their product range to meet customers’ demands. The factories produce women’s and children’s underwear, including printed underwear. The manufacturers monitor and control quality and hope to switch to manufacturing premium goods.

However, the major problem is the lack of skilled workers, and not only at this factory. Seamstress ads can be seen throughout the capital city; their wages have been raised by 30-50 percent: a skilled seamstress or foreman can make about $1,000 a week.

As reported, the number of employees at garment factories has doubled in a year. Now, the garment industry employs more than half a million people, and nearly all of them produce goods for export.
