Kyrgyzstan resumes operations on large coal deposit that stood idle for 12 years

Head of the Administration of the President of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov visited the Jyrgalan coal deposit during his working trip to Issyk-Kul Region. This facility has stood idle for 12 years, and now it will provide several regions of the country with coal, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Mining operations on the Jyrgalan deposit were resumed in the spring of 2022 in accordance with the instructions of President Sadyr Japarov. Now the revived enterprise is an indispensable coal supplier to Karakol city and neighbouring regions during the winter.

Akylbek Zhaparov was informed that the coal deposit would bring economic benefits to the country by relieving the load from another coal deposit, Kara-Keche. In previous years, huge amounts of budgetary funds were spent on transportation of coal from Kara-Keche to Karakol and nearby areas, but now these costs can be significantly reduced.

Now the Jyrgalan deposit produces from 100 to 120 tonnes of coal per day, and 12,000 tonnes of coal are required to meet solid fuels demand in Karakol city and Tyup, Jeti-Oguz and Ak-Suu Regions during the winter. The Jyrgalan deposit is capable of meeting this demand and ensuring adequate heating in these regions during the winter.
