Tajikistan to grow over 1,000 hectares of paulownia forests

Tajikistan adopted the programme aimed at growing «commercial paulownia forests». Adam’s tree plantations with a total area of 1,000 hectares will appear in the country in 2024-2028, ASIA-Plus reported.

Director of the Forestry Agency of Tajikistan Abdujabbor Yusufzoda reported that the Agency is taking measures to expand the plantations of fast-growing trees, including paulownia, to lay the groundwork for timber production and processing in the near future.

He said commercial paulownia plantations will help address the shortage of domestically produced timber and meet the needs of the population. In Tajikistan, most of the forest cover consists of shrubs that cannot meet the needs of the population in commercial timber. As a result, 90-95 percent of building materials have to be imported.

Also, paulownia forests will enable Tajikistan to produce additional fodder resources, increase commercial honey production, prevent erosion of agricultural land and improve the environmental situation in the country.
