Turkmenistan to put forward new initiatives at 78th session of UN General Assembly

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a government meeting in Ashgabat. Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the priority positions of the country at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. He paid special attention to the initiatives of Ashgabat. This was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan: Today».

Turkmenistan will propose to develop the Strategy of Global Security, create a structure on security issues in Central Asia and hold its first meeting in Ashgabat in 2024.

The Turkmen side will also put forward an initiative on development of a Program for fighting terrorism for Central Asia together with the UN Office of Counter Terrorism, a general strategy for reduction of emissions of hotbed gases until 2030, and «The Caspian ecology initiative». Ashgabat will propose to host an international food security forum, a conference of the Group of Friends of Neutrality, the regional conference to end statelessness, a meeting of the Dialogue of the Youth of Central Asia, and the International Week of Turkic Languages in 2024.

In addition, Turkmenistan will propose to open the Institute of Neutrality and Security, the headquarter of the Council of the United Nations concerning use of water resources in the countries of Central Asia, offices of FAO, UNESCO, International Labour Office, UN-Habitat and UNOPS in Ashgabat. The state will underline the importance of creating the Regional Technologies Centre of the United Nations connected with climate change in Central Asia.

The Turkmen side will put forward initiatives on adoption of resolutions to ensure global energy security, strengthen the connectivity between all types of transport, and announce the «World Day of Turkic Languages».

The country will also propose to hold a high-level conference within the Ashgabat process during the regular session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
