In New York, on the sidelines of the high-level forum on sustainable development, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Serdar Joraev met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif. During the talks, the official said that the country is ready to host the UN-Habitat country office, the ORIENT information portal reports.
Joraev noted that the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN Human Settlements Programme contributes to the development of urban politics, economy and finance in the Central Asian country. He added that the partnership has a positive impact on promoting the principles of planning and designing settlements.
He paid particular attention to Arkadag, the first «smart» city of Turkmenistan, which was opened on June 29, 2023. The official thanked the representatives of the program for their participation in the ceremony and recommendations for the implementation of the second phase of the city development.
The head of the ministry of finance and economy invited UN-Habitat experts to visit the Central Asian country in September 2023. He also reminded Maimunah Mohd Sharif that Turkmenistan is a member of the Group of Friends of UN-Habitat.
