Uzbek parliamentarians discuss development of Uzbekistan’s agribusiness

An important «government hour» was held at the recent meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, at which parliamentarians  discussed the development of agriculture, the creation of new jobs and the achievements in agribusiness, the press office of the Parliament of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The agricultural sector plays a key role in Uzbekistan’s economy making up about 30% of GDP. Currently, about 4 million people work in this sector. The Government continues to conduct reforms and encourage the development of agriculture. Over the past six months, over 94,000 hectares of land have been rented to more than 240,000 people, which boosts agribusiness.

The fight against unemployment and the creation of new jobs are the priorities of the Government. More than 800,000 jobs were created over the past six months of 2023 through effective measures. With the aim of promoting e-commerce and selling plots of land at auctions, more than 17,000 lots with a total area of 10,800 hectares were put up on the E-AUKSION online platform.

Minister of Agriculture Aziz Voitov highlighted the importance of adopting water-efficient technologies in agriculture. $5.1 billion in subsidies have been allocated for these purposes. Moreover, 293 billion soums from the budget were spent on developing livestock, poultry and fish farming, importing breeding stock and raising local breeding stock.
