Japan eases regime for migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan

Citizens of Kyrgyzstan who have a new status of residence — «Specified Skilled Worker» will get more opportunities to work in Japan, the Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic reported to CentralAsia.news.

Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration Kudaibergen Bazarbayev signed the memorandum with the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the National Police Agency of Japan.

This document regulates the functioning of the system associated with foreign workers who have the status of residence «Specified Skilled Worker». Previously, citizens of Kyrgyzstan could work only as «technical intern trainees». According to the latest data, 670 Kyrgyz citizens are working in Japan under the old rules.

Minister Bazarbaev noted that the Decree of the President set a priority task of ensuring safe conditions of employment overseas. It includes guaranteed decent salaries, social benefits and comfortable living conditions.

Kyrgyzstan considers it important that its citizens work in other countries. Thus they gain experience and new skills, which they can use for the benefit of their country.

The status of residence «Specified Skilled Worker» expands legal employment opportunities for Kyrgyz citizens in Japan. The memorandum contributes to diversifying the external labour market, strengthening the interaction among the migration authorities and facilitating the exchange of information on external labour migration.
