Early voting in presidential election has started in Uzbekistan

Early voting in the presidential election, which will be held until July 5, has started in Uzbekistan. The election day is to be held on July 9, Sputnik reports.

Polling stations opened at 11:00 and will work until 17:00 on weekends and holidays, and from 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays. By law, citizens who are 18 years of age or older can vote.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan has registered 4 presidential candidates. Ulugbek Inoyatov from the People’s Democratic Party (PDPU), incumbent President Shavkat Mirziyoyev from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People — the Liberal Democratic Party (UzLiDeP), Robakhon Makhmudova from the Adolat Social Democratic Party (SDPU) and Abdushukur Khamzaev from the Ecological Party are running for president.

Earlier, the Observer Mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States started monitoring the early presidential election in Uzbekistan. Head of the Mission Headquarters Yevgeny Kozyak and Deputy Chairman of the CEC of Uzbekistan Bakhrom Kuchkarov had a meeting in Tashkent on June 16. The interlocutors discussed the preparations for the election and the organisation of work of the CIS Observer Mission.
