Turkmenistan to consider possibility of holding cycling competitions

In Ashgabat, Turkmen leader Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Osama Al Shafar, Deputy Head of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the President of the Asian Cycling Confederation. The head of the state noted the readiness of Ashgabat to consider the possibility of holding cycling competitions. This was reported by the state state agency «Turkmenistan Today».

Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan has the necessary infrastructure to organize large-scale international competitions in various cycling disciplines. The president said that the country is ready to discuss issues of using a modern indoor cycle track in the Olympic village of the capital.

The Deputy Head of the UCI noted that Turkmenistan had previously held major international competitions at a high level. In his opinion, the country did it perfectly. He expressed confidence in the successful organization of world tournaments to be held in the Central Asian state in the future.

During the meeting, it was also noted that Turkmenistan makes a great contribution to the development of the cycling sport, widely popularizing it among its citizens and holding mass bike rides. In 2017, the country successfully hosted the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. In 2018, at the initiative of Ashgabat, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day.
