Kyrgyzstan seeks to help its citizens stay in Russia

The Ombudsmen from Kyrgyzstan and Russia discussed joint actions that they could take to protect the rights of their citizens, Sputnik reports.

Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Jamilya Jamanbayeva and Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova held talks. Moskalkova noted that she is taking legislative measures to simplify the rules that allow migrants from Kyrgyzstan to stay in the Russian Federation. For example, foreign nationals are deported if they are late to inform about the loss of a passport, but now the possibility of replacing deportation with a fine is being considered. Such measures will help migrants continue to stay in Russia.

Moskalkova noted that many complaints about the deportation of Kyrgyz citizens from Russia have been received. The citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic who have families in Russia were assisted in staying in the Russian Federation.

The Ombudsmen reached an understanding on the assistance in training volunteers in the knowledge of Russian human rights laws. Volunteers will provide assistance to migrants from Kyrgyzstan whose rights have been violated.
