On June 15, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Uzbekistan Olgan Bekar to discuss in detail the current situation in Afghanistan and the global efforts, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.
The interlocutors exchanged views on expanding cooperation on the Afghanistan-related issues.
In particular, they agreed on the need to continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and coordinate efforts to combat terrorism.
The Ambassador of Turkey emphasised the significant role of Uzbekistan in establishing long-lasting and sustainable peace in Afghanistan and involving this country in regional integration processes.
In October 2022, the President of Uzbekistan addressed the VI Summit of the of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Astana. In his speech, the Uzbek leader highlighted the importance of restoring a peaceful life in Afghanistan and urged to develop joint and coordinated approaches to interacting with the Afghan Interim Administration.
