Kazakhstan to fine for fakes and cyberbullying

The Parliament of Kazakhstan is considering the law on online platforms and online advertising, which provides for charging penalties for spreading false information online, Mir 24 reports.

It is proposed to charge a fine of 69,000 tenge for this violation and detent bloggers for up to 10 days for the repeated violation. Punishment will also be provided for insulting, cyberbullying and creating a financial pyramid.

The law defines the concept of false information, for the dissemination of which huge fines are to be charged. This is information that does not correspond to reality or significantly distorts facts, creating a false idea of persons, objects, events, phenomena and processes. The law gives the definition to the term «blogger».

If passed, the new law will classify the activities of bloggers as entrepreneurial. Bloggers will be required to label advertising content.
