Ambassador of Russia notes all-round development of relations with Turkmenistan

On the occasion of Russia Day, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ashgabat Ivan Volynkin assessed cooperation of the country with Turkmenistan. He stressed that the progress is achieved in all areas of bilateral partnership. The diplomat paid attention to such areas as the economy, trade and education, as reported by «Neutral Turkmenistan» newspaper.

At the end of 2022, the trade turnover between the states exceeded 1.6 billion dollars. The state owned company Russian Railways, manufacturer of trucks, buses and engines Kamaz, PJSC Tatneft and the construction company Vozrozhdenie operate in Turkmenistan.

The ambassador stressed that the regions of the Russian Federation are actively cooperating with the Central Asian country. These are St. Petersburg,  the Republic of Tatarstan, Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk regions. Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation have created an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, and a high-level group on trade and investment support.

The states plan to open the Joint Russian-Turkmen University, a new building for primary classes of the Joint Turkmen-Russian secondary school named after Alexander Pushkin, a new building of the Russian Drama Theater named after Alexander Pushkin in Ashgabat. Now there are 71 schools with Russian classes in the Central Asian country. Recently, Russian film and animation week took place in Turkmenistan.

Volynkin drew attention to the invaluable role of the head of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in expanding the potential for cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan. He recalled that last year the national leader was awarded the Russian order «For Services to the Fatherland». The diplomat expressed confidence that the countries will continue to move towards new horizons of mutually beneficial partnership.

In February 2002, Turkmenistan and Russia signed an agreement on friendship and cooperation. In October 2017, the countries signed a strategic partnership agreement. In 2022, the states consolidated relations with a declaration on deepening strategic cooperation.
