New hydropower plants help Tajikistan generate more electricity

Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda presented plans on the construction of new hydropower plants, which will increase electricity generation fivefold, TASS reported.

He invited the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union to jointly develop the hydropower potential of Tajikistan, which, in his opinion, will contribute to economic development of the region. Currently, hydropower plants generate 98 percent of electricity in Tajikistan, and its hydropower resources are estimated at 527 billion kWh per year.

Kokhir Rasulzoda noted that Tajikistan exports about 42 percent of domestic products to the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Republic is ready to increase exports of agricultural products, cotton, textiles, non-ferrous and rare metals to the EAEU Member States. In 2022, the share of the EAEU Member States of the foreign trade turnover of Tajikistan accounted for 42 percent, and the Republic is seeking to expand trade and economic relations with all the EAEU Member States.
