EU may ease visa procedures for Kazakhstan

On May 15, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu held a meeting with European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson in Brussels. The interlocutors agreed to launch official consultations on the facilitation of visa procedures for citizens of Kazakhstan, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Nurtleu briefed on the visa policy of Kazakhstan, the absence of migration risks for the European Union in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the measures taken by the Government of Kazakhstan to combat illegal migration.

Johansson noted that the European Union is willing to cooperate with Kazakhstan. It is also important that citizens expand contacts and cultural exchanges take place.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude to the European Union for its constructive approach, noting that the simplified visa regime between the European Union and Kazakhstan will give impetus to EU-Kazakhstan relations.

In 2017, Kazakhstan granted visa free travel to all EU countries. The Republic considered it important to promote cooperation and people-to-people contacts.
