Uzbek authorities to launch new poverty eradication programme

Uzbekistan is launching a programme aimed at eradicating poverty in the country. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a government meeting via videoconference to discuss new measures to reduce poverty. The programme envisages providing benefits and credit relief to the employers who are ready to train their employees, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

In particular, the authorities intend to provide tax and credit benefits to the employers who are ready to train their employees. It is planned to earmark $1 billion for the implementation of the programme in 2023-2024.

As part of the «20,000 entrepreneurs — 500,000 qualified specialists» Initiative, the authorities are ready to fully meet the costs incurred by the enterprises in providing training and equipping monocentres. Though the number of private companies in the country has increased from 285,000 to 590,000 over the past 5 years, poverty remains an unresolved problem in the Republic.
