Kazakhstan and Tajikistan to jointly produce flour and vegetable oil

On May 3, the contracts worth $1.8 billion, of which grain deals are worth more than $600 million, were signed during the Tajikistan-Kazakhstan business forum in Astana, ASIA-plus reports.

Judging by the structure of imports and exports, Kazakhstan is the largest supplier of wheat and flour to Tajikistan. However, there are opportunities to expand exports: vegetable oils, macaroni products, dairy products and confectionery.

President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said Kazakhstan is leaning toward continuing to import fruits and vegetables from Tajikistan, while Tajikistan is looking for ways to increase agricultural production and processing.

The parties agreed to discuss the prospects for setting up joint ventures that would produce, process and store agricultural products, including flour mills and enterprises that produce confectionery and vegetable oil and process livestock products.
