Kyrgyzstan unveils new banknotes

On May 10, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan put into circulation the new national currency banknote, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic reported to CentralAsia.news.

The new, fifth series of Kyrgyz banknotes is comprised of three denominations — 200, 500 and 1,000 soms and dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency of Kyrgyzstan. The new banknotes will have the status of an official means of payment on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and be accepted as a means of payment, regardless of the year of issue.

The design of the new series of national currency banknotes depicts the historical and cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan. The new banknotes have the portraits of artists and cultural workers on the obverse and the sights of the Republic on the reverse. The main colour and size of banknotes remained unchanged.

According to the press office of the National Bank, the banknotes reflect the evolution of the national currency since it was put into circulation in 1993. Three levels of key security features deter counterfeiting.
