Shavkat Mirziyoyev attends Victory Day Parade on Red Square

On May 9, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Moscow at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to take part in the celebrations of the 78th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The Uzbek leader, accompanied by the President of Russia, visited Red Square, where a Victory Day military parade took place. The leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Belarus and the Prime Minister of Armenia attended the parade as well.

After the parade, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden and honoured the memory of Soviet soldiers who perished in the war.

About 2 million citizens of the Uzbek SSR participated in the Great Patriotic War, over 500,000 of whom were killed. During the war years, Uzbekistan received over 1.5 million refugees from the occupied territories, including 200,000 children. More than 170 factories and plants evacuated to the Republic supplied weapons, medicines, food and clothing to the front.
