Turkmenistan and ICTD to improve international transport infrastructure

In Ashgabat, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Berdiniyaz Myatiev met with the Executive Secretary of the UN International Center for Transport Diplomacy (ICTD) Igor Runov. They noted the importance of joint work on improving the international transport infrastructure. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the Turkmen MFA.

The participants of the meeting emphasized the significance of further improvement of the legal and logistical base in the relevant direction. Attention was also paid to the advisability of taking measures to further develop the regional transport infrastructure.

During the negotiations, it was noted that Turkmenistan contributes to the expansion of the potential of important transport and logistics routes. These are the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman and Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) corridors, and the Caspian Sea — Black Sea interregional route.

The first United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference was held in the capital of Turkmenistan in 2016. Tomorrow, Ashgabat will host the conference and exhibition «International transport and transit corridors: interconnectedness and development — 2023».
