The interagency consultation on the establishment of the Anti-Drug Centre of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Dushanbe took place in the capital of Tajikistan. The representatives and experts of the departments from the SCO Member States attended the meeting, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.
The delegations of Iran and Belarus attended the meeting as observers. Particular attention was paid to the approaches of the Republic to the potential modalities, tasks and staff structure of the Centre.
The participants visited the districts of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, which border on Afghanistan. They were informed about the measures taken to combat illicit drug trafficking. The officials visited the Drug Control Agency of Tajikistan to learn about its activities.
Following the interagency consultation, the representatives of the ministries and departments of Tajikistan, the Russian Federation, India, the People’s Republic of China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and the heads of the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization signed a protocol.
