Skoda to start production of electric buses and trams in Kazakhstan

Skoda Transportation is planning to start production of electric buses and trams in two cities of Kazakhstan: Alma-Ata and Pavlodar. Deputy Chairman of Kazakh Invest National Company Zhandos Temirgali confirmed this news, Finmarket News Agency reports.

Temirgali said this project is a flagship investment-intensive project. There are no similar production facilities in Kazakhstan.

The talks on the launch of production of electric buses and trams in Kazakhstan with Skoda Transportation took place last year. The delegations of the Kazakh railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Czech Elektrotechnika that manufactures traction systems for tram and trolleybus networks and undergrounds participated in the talks.

Skoda Transportation, a subsidiary of German Volkswagen, is one of the leading European manufacturers of locomotives, trams, trolleybuses and electric buses. The launch of production will contribute to developing Kazakhstan’s transport sector and improving the environment in the country.
