Uzbek Senate member participates in international conference

Chairman of the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Ravshanbek Alimov participated in the 23rd Alliance against Trafficking in Persons Conference, which was held in the capital of Austria, the press office of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reported.

The delegations of all the OSCE Participating States and other countries and the international humanitarian organisations took part in the conference.

OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Bujar Osmani, former UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Pramila Patten delivered speeches.

In his speech, Ravshanbek Alimov informed those present about ongoing economic, political and social reforms in Uzbekistan, emphasising that a special role is given to the provisions on the respect for human rights and freedoms. Uzbekistan pays great attention to such a problem as trafficking in persons, taking practical steps to improve institutional, organisational, legal and international cooperation to counter this crime.

In 2019, the National and Territorial Commissions on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labour were set up in Uzbekistan. Through their efforts, Uzbekistan has made significant progress in combating these negative phenomena.

The participants commended Uzbekistan for its efforts to combat trafficking in persons within the reforms launched in the Republic and positively evaluated cooperation of Uzbekistan with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in the implementation of international standards on trafficking in persons.
