Japanese seismologist to start work at Turkmen observatories

Japanese Seismologist Jun Matsuo arrived in Turkmenistan. He will work at the observatories of the Central Asian country, which study earthquakes. This will be done as part of a project aimed at improving the monitoring of possible tremors. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the Japanese Embassy.

Jun Matsuo will work in the provinces of Turkmenistan. He will cooperate with the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics. The project is carried out with the participation of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

Turkmenistan and Japan initiated a program for the exchange of experience in seismology. It previously stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic. In early April, after its resumption, the Japanese seismologist Iseki Shinichi arrived in the capital of the Central Asian country.

The Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of Turkmenistan conducts fundamental research in the physics of the earthquake source, regional seismology, geophysics, and modern geodynamics.
