Uzbekistan to receive $240 million from World Bank to boost livestock sector

The World Bank has decided to allocate about $240 million to boost Uzbekistan’s livestock sector. Uzbekistan will receive a $150 million concessional loan from the International Development Association and a $90 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development at a low interest rate, the press office of the World Bank reported to CentralAsia.news.

The authorities of Uzbekistan have to repay these loans within 24.5-30 years. The funds will be used to create a competitive and sustainable environment in Uzbekistan’s livestock sector. The Livestock Sector Development Project. Phase 2 will allow implementing the Livestock Sector Development Programme of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

The country is expected to enhance food security, improve the productivity in the livestock sector and provide market access for producers.

The World Bank is ready to provide technical assistance to Tashkent to implement the project. World Bank Country Manager for Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli said the implementation of the project is an important step to develop animal husbandry in Uzbekistan.
