World Bank to develop new project and provide financing to Kyrgyzstan

On April 11, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov discussed further cooperation with Vice President for Human Development at the World Bank Mamta Murthi during his working trip to Washington, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The interlocutors discussed ongoing and planned projects in Kyrgyzstan in such areas as economy, banking, education, social development and digitalization.

Zhaparov noted that Kyrgyzstan will need more «direct assistance» to boost Kyrgyzstan’s economy, mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic on human capital and give a new impetus to regional economic relations and common markets.

The Vice President for Human Development noted that Kyrgyzstan has made significant progress in increasing financing for the education and health sector. She also informed about the development of a new project and financial assistance from the World Bank to promote higher education in Kyrgyzstan.
