President of Uzbekistan orders 1.3 trillion soums to be earmarked for public projects

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the Government to earmark 1.3 trillion soums to support citizens’ initiatives. These projects were submitted to the Initiative Budget competition, but did not succeed and receive funding, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Such projects total about 1,300, each of them received more than 2,000 votes. The President said the issues of concern for 4 million people would remain unresolved without additional support.

The projects submitted to the competition focus on the construction and renovation of schools, hospitals, kindergartens, roads and electricity and water supply networks. Following the results of voting this year, 1,666 initiatives have won, 34,000 projects have been submitted to the competition and 16 million citizens have voted. Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasised the need to allocate a significant amount additionally from the Republican budget to support citizens’ initiatives.
